Barton is hosting the first round of in-person auditions for its dance company, Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dance Theatre, and dance scholarship awards, from 10 a.m.-12 noon, March 27 in Studio 34, located in the Sunflower housing units on Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s campus. Ìý
Dance Coordinator Danika Bielek said students considering a job or career in dance, or becoming a dance major, should consider what Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s Dance Department has to offer.
“This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy dancing,†she said. “Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s Dance Department offers competitive performance award scholarships that can help pay for school while students continue to grow as dancers in a nurturing and creative environment.â€
Barton Dance Theatre strives to:
•ÌýÌý ÌýGive dance students an understanding of what it is like to dance in a dance company.
•ÌýÌý ÌýGive dance majors and students pursuing other majors the opportunity to continue their love of dancing in college.
•ÌýÌý ÌýExpose dance students to a variety of dance styles, and how to perform them.
•ÌýÌý ÌýGive students experience dancing at different of venues, for a variety of audiences.
•ÌýÌý ÌýIncrease dance students’ knowledge of healthy practices for performers: nutrition, maintaining a healthy body, and social aspects of a dance company.
•ÌýÌý ÌýCreate technically strong and resilient dancers while learning to perform dance as an art form.
•ÌýÌý ÌýExpose dance majors to university dance program options to consider transferring into after Â鶹¹ÙÍø.
To be considered for company placement, dance students must have at least two years of dance experience and plan to attend Â鶹¹ÙÍø in the fall of 2021. Once accepted, students will register for DANC 1001 Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dance Theatre (2 credits) meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m.Ìý
Barton’s Performing Arts Dance Program is offering generous performance scholarships to both Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dance Theatre members. The dance program is also providing scholarships for students who wish to take other dance classes.
