Barton invites early childhood educators, afterschool providers, community volunteers, and families to participate in Science Activities for the Young Child, a special hybrid class designed to bring the wonders of science into the lives of young learners.
This one-credit-hour course, taught by Coordinator of Early Childhood and Elementary Education KellyAnn Bonnell, will meet 6 - 8:30 p.m. June 18 and July 24 on the Â鶹¹ÙÍø County Campus. Between these sessions, participants will complete engaging online assignments to deepen their learning.
Bonnell said the course allows participants to build a portfolio of hands-on science activities designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. It will introduce the Next Generation Science Standards for preschool and an overview of the Kansas Early Learning Standards for Science. Participants will also gain hands-on experience with fun, educational science projects that can be easily integrated into their work with young learners.
“Whether you’re an early care and education professional, an afterschool enrichment provider, a community volunteer in programs like scouting or Sunday school, or a parent or grandparent looking to make science come alive for young children, this course is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills and spark curiosity in the next generation,†she said.
