The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Theatre Department will host open auditions for its upcoming summer performance of “The Contrast†4-6:30 p.m. May 17 and 18 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
“The Contrast†is a musical based on the first American comedy of the same name written in 1787 byÌýRoyall Tyler. “The Contrast†takes a satirical look at the first Americans working to define American culture while still living and enjoying the British lifestyle.

There is a great deal happening this time of year.Ìý Classes at Â鶹¹ÙÍø are over and it is finals and graduation week.Ìý Area schools are in the home stretch.Ìý A blizzard this past week in western Kansas hurt an already disease stressed wheat crop.Ìý Heavy rains in our area have delayed corn planting and input application.Ìý One event that likely passed under the radar was the Tractor Safety Class conducted by Â鶹¹ÙÍø County Extension Office.Ìý

Barton will host its 10th annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 3 and 4 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.
The contest is open to Â鶹¹ÙÍø students and local high school students. Artists can register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on either of the two days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

Barton art students received recognition at this year’s Â鶹¹ÙÍø Student Exhibition at the Shafer Gallery on April 21. This exhibit will run through May 12. Those interested in experiencing the art can visit the Shafer Gallery 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Music Department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles.Ìý This could not be done without the community’s support of the annual Music Endowment Concert, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
