The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs. This month’s focus was on “Strategic Planning,†which deals primarily with ensuring the college operations and budget are in line with the priorities identified by the board, which are to Drive Student Success, Cultivate Community Engagement, Optimize Employee Experience and Emphasize Institutional Effectiveness.

Barton will offer transitioning Fort Carson Soldiers a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants. The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends.
The next course is set from July 10-21 at 1638 Elwell Street, Building 6236, Fort Carson, Colo.

Barton welding instructor Allan Collins, who works with inmates at Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) via the Building Academic Skills In Correctional Settings (BASICS) program, was named the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Outstanding Contract Employee of the Year for the Ellsworth facility. He received a certificate and shook Gov. Sam Brownback’s hand Wednesday morning at the Capitol Building in Topeka.

Barton at Fort Leavenworth celebrated the graduation of 27 students on Wednesday, June 7 at the Lewis and Clark Center at Fort Leavenworth. The ceremony was in conjunction with other schools who are members of the consortium in the Fort Leavenworth Education Center.
One of those graduates was Josef Leo, a recent high school graduate who also earned an Associate of Arts through Â鶹¹ÙÍø at the young age of 17.

Barton now offers . These new awards will assist students more than before in affording a college education.
Barton Bound Scholarships are available to first-time college students who graduated from a Kansas High School the previous academic year and are Kansas Residents. There are four levels of awards offered based on a student’s GPA or ACT score: Elite, Excellence, Honor, and Achievement awards.

It’s darkest before dawn; this is the message of hope Janet David wants to spread with her recent achievement as a Â鶹¹ÙÍø graduate. She shared her story with a crowd of her peers at a small ceremony celebrating inductees to two honor societies, Alpha Sigma Lambda and Phi Theta Kappa on Wednesday morning at Fort Riley.

Barton’s Center for Adult Education will soon be starting its nine-week GED Preparation Class. The orientation day, which is a prerequisite for the course, will be held from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3-7 p.m. on May 25 at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. The morning class session will begin the following Tuesday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and the afternoon class session will meet 3-7 p.m.
