Barton sophomore theatre major Joy Conner used to be shy.Ìý Thanks to her involvement with theatre, her shyness is a thing of the past.Ìý She’ll be portraying the role of Truvy Jones in the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Theatre production of “Steel Magnolias,†a role made famous by Dolly Parton in the Hollywood movie.Ìý Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Theatre will present the play at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25-27 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Barton will offer a web design course from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Oct. 28 – Nov. 13 in the Technical Building, room T-117.

In this course, students will learn how to create, update, design and maintain a website.Ìý Other topics will include making a website work, tools and software needed, editing web pages, saving html web pages, design and layout fundamentals, creating images, tables and forms and general website maintenance.

Barton will offer an iPad and iPhone training course 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Oct. 20 - Nov. 12 in the Technical Building, room T-115.

This course will cover beginner and intermediate iPad and iPhone appli­cations and features including social media use, podcasts, taking and sharing photos and more. The focus will then shift to advanced apps.Ìý The class is designed for teachers, students, business owners, employees and IT support staff.

More than a decade removed from high school with four kids and a wife to support and no career prospects, 32-year-old Rey Rodriguez turned to Âé¶¹¹Ù꿉۪s Automotive Technician program to change his life.

Rodriguez graduated high school in 2000 and bounced around from job to job and city to city.

Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek has been invited to showcase his work at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery a special invitational show, "Embracing Nature.â€Ìý His work will be on display from Sept. 9 through Oct. 19, with an evening, nature-themed reception on from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

The Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Music Department will host auditions for its holiday musical, the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,†at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 and 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8 for adults.Ìý There will be a separate audition for children only on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.Ìý Actors of all ages are encouraged to audition.Ìý The total cast number will be around 35.

The Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø library will host “Librarypalooza†from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25 in the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Library.Ìý

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet library staff, try out iPad minis and more at the “Technology Petting Zoo†and learn about library resources, services and recent additions.Ìý

Each year, the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø faculty and staff get to strut their artistic talents in the Shafer Art Gallery’s “Faculty-Staff-Friends-Acquaintances-and-Some-Folks-We-Hardly-Know†exhibit like professional artists, complete with a full-blown reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 22.Ìý The show will also include exhibits from Esther Maher, which will feature a variety of prints, paintings and ceramics, and Valery Shilaev, which will include paintings focusing on nautical-themed pieces.
