The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Library will hold an art contest beginning April 10 to determine the artwork for ten Cohen Center for Kansas History (CCKH) trivia pamphlets.Ìý Submissions must be done in pencil or colored pencil and must be received by April 23.Ìý Contest is open to all students, Â鶹¹ÙÍø employees, and community members.Ìý Multiple entries are accepted.Ìý
The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 in the Shafer Art Gallery.
The 24-piece orchestra is comprised of high school, college and adult members of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø and Pawnee county area.Ìý The string orchestra will be playing selections by Haydn, Bach and Beethoven.Ìý The strings will be joined by the woodwinds and percussions sections for the first movement of the Haydn “Londonâ€ÌýSymphony and a new composition, “Warrior Legacy.â€
The concert will also feature the Great Bend High School String Quartet.
Barton History Instructor Linda McCaffery will present “Mary Elizabeth Lease: Why I am a Populist,†at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10 in the Library.Ìý Catered refreshments will be served.
“I will portray Mary Elizabeth Lease (Wichita) campaigning for presidential candidate, James Weaver, of the Populist Party,†McCaffery said of her presentation.Ìý “What is extraordinary is that women in 1892 could not vote and were not involved in politics.Ìý She even spoke at the national convention in Omaha.â€Ìý

Barton will officially show off its newly remodeled Fine Arts Auditorium and foyer area by hosting an open house event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 27.
The event will feature live performances from Â鶹¹ÙÍø students and comments from Â鶹¹ÙÍø administrators.Ìý There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development.Ìý Attendees will have the opportunity to tour all areas of the remodeled facility including the stage and backstage areas.

Barton and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina have started a partnership byÌýsigning a transfer agreement Tuesday on the Â鶹¹ÙÍø County campus. Ìý
The agreement is designed to make transferring to KWU seamless for Â鶹¹ÙÍø students.Ìý The agreement guarantees students who graduate from Â鶹¹ÙÍø with an associate of arts or science degree and a 2.0 GPA or higher admission to KWU as a junior.
